Hit the Road Jack
Nice plan, no really, nice plan. Just take a flight to Buenos Aires, why not? Well, that’s not really a plan now, is it? When I arrived I didn’t have a reservation, didn’t even have the address of the hostel written down, and I surely didn’t know anyone. Perfect. And that’s exactly how I landed into my new life the 9th of October 2008, carrying only two weekend bags and two major objectives for the coming 6 months or so; first, I wanted to learn spanish, because it irritated me I couldn’t talk to the taxidriver in Peru about his hero Farfan, a Peruvian soccer player with PSV Eindhoven. So I arranged 10 weeks of classes every single day to get me to talk this new language in no time. And allthough I lost some french and german on the way, I can manage myself pretty well here now. Second, I wanted to find people to help me with my project called *****friends, a new social network that revolves around sharing locations with your friends. I traded the upcoming autumn of Amsterdam for the lovely spring of Buenos Aires, and as would soon become clear, the financial crisis for the summer fever. And for a country that has been in ‘crisis’ since 2001, who can blame them?
